Letter, poems, and a portrait, ca. 1873.

Handwritten and signed letter, addressed to "My dear Friends." The item is not dated. Beattie assures them they are in his thoughts and wishes them happiness. Two handwritten poems initialed by Beattie. One is called, "Martha S. Copland, on her Birthday." The item is dated 24 Feb. 1873 and wishes Miss Copland well. Also indlued is the envelope in which the poem was sent. The other peom is called, "Alice." The item praises the woman's qualities. With the collection is an engraved portrait of Beattie with a photomechanically reproduced autograph.
